Social Media is a city
Corporate sites are the storefronts on Main Street
Craigslist is the bulletin board at the entrance of the corner store
EBay is the garage sale
Amazon, the book store- complete with patrons that give their 2 cents
Yelp is like Zaggot for the world
Twitter is the gossip, water cooler or barber shop
Mainstream media sites, New York Times, are the newspapers
Chat rooms and forums are the bars and clubs
Social Networking sites are the cocktail parties
Adult sites are the “other side of the tracks”
The cocktail party
- Do you go to a party and scream “Buy my product!”?
- Do you ask everyone for a business card before speaking with them?
- Do you listen more than you speak?
- Are you helpful? Give information out with no expectations of anything in return
- Do you try and meet everyone or have a few good conversations?
- Do you avoid them all together?
